Importance of mobile phones

The world has completely changed with the expansion of technological progress.  People can’t imagine their life without is a mobile phone. So why is it so important for people of the modern world?

Firstly, mobile phone is very useful. It helps people to keep in touch with their friends and relatives at any distance.

Secondly, modern smart phones are the gadgets with unlimited entertainment possibilities. People can watch videos, listen to their favorite music, and play in different games, read books and news on the Internet.

In addition, mobile phone supplies people with the feeling of safety. If you’re in a trouble or in a case of emergency you’re able to contact your family or any services to get help.

In conclusion, I’d like to mention that there is a disadvantage of using mobile phones too. We should remember about the mobile phone addiction especially among teenagers and their disability to communicate in the real world. Though mobile phones give us limitless opportunities, we should not forget about talking to each other live and disconnecting from a mobile phone world at all from time to time.

Task 5. Collaborative learning

Teacher divides learners into 4 groups using numbers from 1–4 and explains that all number 1s work together, all the number 2s work together, all the number 3s and the number 4s work together. Teacher gives learners a few minutes to find their groups and sit in different parts of the room.

Teacher: the groups of 1s and 3s work on advantages of mobile phones, and the groups of 2s and 4s work on disadvantages of mobile phones.

Learners read the text on the worksheets and write advantages (good or positive things), and disadvantages (bad or negative things) on the stickers.

After 10 minutes the learners come the board and put stickers in two columns: Advantages and Disadvantages.

(Group peer assessment: “Agree or Disagree”

Task 6. The essay

Teacher discusses with learners how to write an essay (previous learning):

What is an essay?

What is the purpose of an essay?

Who do you write an essay for?

What types of language do you use in an essay?

Learners write an essay:

Less able learners write essay according to the plan, based on the sample

More able learners write essay (60 words) according to the plan with support, indicating one advantage with a good example, one disadvantage with a good example.

Most able learners write essay (90 words) according to the plan without support, indicating two advantages with good examples, two disadvantages with good examples.

After the task teacher asks 1-2 most able learners to read the essay loudly and gives them constructive feedback.

Others learners give the essays to the teacher for checking (Teacher`s formative assessment)
